AgriSmart has received their first order for 1,000 metric tons of crude palm oil. The palm oil pods are being grown by a farmer’s cooperative that AgriSmart pays higher than average wages. The palm oil is then processed at a leased facility in country before being transported to the port in Abidjan for export.

Côte d’Ivoire has some of the world’s most fertile soil, coupled with two and a half growing seasons per year. A native vegetation of the West Africa region, oil palms are a highly beneficial organism to the Côte d’Ivoire ecosystem and play a major role in reforestation initiatives. Palm oil is currently one of the fastest growing global agriculture industries, and perhaps the most widely used agricultural commodity today, likely found in products in every room of your house. Côte d’Ivoire is the second largest African producer of palm oil which greatly contributes to the reduction of poverty through the creation of jobs in an array of industries from plantation farming, raw production, and manufacturing of finished products, to the transportation and shipping of products at various stages of processing.

Along with Côte d’Ivoire being the fourth fastest growing economy in the world and considered to be the most business friendly country in Africa, the port in Abidjan is the second largest deep water port in Africa and the main port of trade for eight neighboring countries.

AgriSmart has leased over one million acres of certified forests, over half of which is savannah land, in a public/private partnership with SODEFOR Society for Development of Forests in Côte d’Ivoire. The land will generate more than enough food to reduce hunger in the country, build productive capacity through creation of jobs and export of surplus food generated, assist with poverty reduction, and help restore degraded forests. Once fully operational, AgriSmart will provide 10,000 jobs in the country and mobile medical care for 500,000 Ivorian citizens and migrant workers.

Creating opportunity for those who served, wounded veterans are slated to fill a majority of AgriSmart US based jobs in training, shipping and logistics. The Côte d’Ivoire veterans employment agency will select technically qualified Ivoirians from all families, tribes and religions to fill AgriSmart employee roles.

The formula for success used by AgriSmart is an inclusive business plan that puts people first seeking the advantageous for all involved. AgriSmart is introducing sustainable intensive farming and the use of modern mechanized farming equipment, in combination with FDA approved organic pesticide that kills the mosquito carriers of malaria and zika virus. The AgriSmart venture philanthropy business model of catalytic giving based on the ethic of reciprocity includes providing housing to Côte d’Ivoire employees and their families with smart utilities, clean water, and temperature control – luxuries until now known only to the financial elite of the region.

AgriSmart manifests a fundamental commitment to sustainable development by recycling left over agriculture waste to supply the manufacture of products such as fiberboard from cornstalks, wood pellets from initial land clearing remnants, and bio-diesel fuel production from palm oil.

H. David Meyers (bio) is the first leadership profile featured on I am technology. #blog. I had the privilege to meet H and have dinner with him as he and my father passed through Charlotte, NC last week towing a baby grand piano en route from Georgia back to the D.C metro area. He is full of delightful stories about sensational situations with distinguished personalities. His friend of over twenty years, who joined us, had as many entertaining stories about her thrilling experiences with H over the years. The table was captivated as he retold amazing experience after another. That was only part of his allure; H. David actively listened with undiluted intent and equal interest to everyone else’s shared experiences and stories as well. H. David Meyers is a truly one of a kind individual, a simply unforgettable man, the type of person that books are written about, competitors are proud for the opportunity to have been beaten by, a man I’m sure many ladies never forget, and someone who all who know him are thankful for the rare opportunity to meet someone so unafraid to just be themselves.

H David Meyers is no stranger to extraordinary success. His latest activities include the founding and serving as Chairman of the Board for ?AgriSmart, Inc., an international agriculture organization dedicated to elevating the economy of Côte d’Ivoire (Africa’s Ivory Coast) through the development of industrial sustainable farming. He also currently serves as the Executive Director of Beethoven Found: Tribute to Wounded Warriors, a non-profit where he donates his time and exceptional oboe performance skills to raise funds for wounded American veterans of war.

A highly acclaimed internationally recognized oboist, H. David Meyers performed at Carnegie Hall at the tender age of fifteen. He has had a dozen solo appearances with National Symphony Orchestra members. In 2006, H. David was the coveted soloist on a recording of a Beethoven concerto whose score had been lost for almost 200 years with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, one of Russia’s most prestigious orchestras.

Holding BA and Juris Doctor degrees from University of Miami and GW Law School, H. David’s pursuit of academia has proved equally successful as his business and musical endeavors.

When H. David Meyers sets his mind to accomplishing something, he demonstrates the perseverance of a pit-bull along with the patience of Job and has proven successes doing even what others tell him cannot be done. He founded Timesaver/MasterCard and Visa in 1974, an organization that benefitted low-income people and families by approving approximately 90% of applications, compared with the average approval rate of most banks at the time of less than 50%. As crazy as the banks called him at the time, this first secured credit card offering was a revolutionary development in banking that directly led to the modern day debit card. Yes, you read that correctly, Mr. Meyers is the inventor of the debit card, which he created to assist low-income individuals and families.

H. David hired baseball legend Mickey Mantle as the national spokesperson for the revolutionary Timesaver, Inc. business venture. To thank H and his brother for giving him the position as TV spokesperson, Mickey Mantle brought a gift from Dallas to Washington, D.C. in the form of a commissioned painting by the famous artist, Robert Simon. This painting commissioned by Mickey Mantle later went on to a nationwide museum tour eventually selling at auction to benefit Wounded Warriors. Read more about H. Mr. Meyers participated in a 200 piece orchestra with 500 chorus members, 6 bands, and 100 tents providing entertainment all day, with more than 30,000 people in attendance on May 27th, 2012 at Great Meadows in The Plains, Virginia, to honor America’s heroes, Wounded Warriors.

One evening at a bar in Georgetown, Washington D.C, a gentleman from Côte d’Ivoire approached H. David to introduce himself. In his introduction, the man tells Mr. Meyers I hear your name everywhere, everyone seems to know you, and many of my friends tell me I really must meet H. Like everyone else, the man is impressed with H’s warm, sincere demeanor and his confidence without arrogance. They exchange stories, the man tells about his homeland of Côte d’Ivoire, and after they chat for a while, the man of Ivorian descent asks H, what can you do for my country? Mr. Meyers replies, get me a meeting with your ambassador and I’ll see what I can do. The next day, the man calls H. David Meyers to inform he has lunch scheduled with the ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire the following day. So began the determination of H. David Meyers to help Côte d’Ivoire and what would lead to the creation of CornSmart which eventually became AgriSmart, Inc.

David Meyers, along with his team of top experts in their fields of study, formed AgriSmart, Inc. to generate significant quantities of food, and to assist in the elimination of hunger and eradicating poverty while creating higher-than-average wage jobs for the people of Côte d’Ivoire and the region.
